He barged into the room the moment the door shut behind them.

Before she could even understand what was happening, he was already in front of her. His hands shot out, gripping her arms tightly and pulling her into him. Pain shot through her body, and fear settled deep in her chest.

His eyes were bloodshotโ€”burning with rage.

"How dare you marry me?" he roared, his voice shaking the walls.

Tears welled up in her eyes and spilled down her cheeks. The sight of them only fueled his anger.

"Don't... don't you dare show me those fake tears," he snapped. "They won't melt my heart."

His grip tightened painfully around her arms.

She whimpered, her voice trembling. "A-Ahirโ€”"

"Stop it!" he thundered. "Don't you dare take my name from that filthy mouth of yours."

"B-but... it hurts, Ahir," she stammered, her voice breaking.

His eyes flickered to his hands, tightly wrapped around her armsโ€”yet he didn't loosen his hold. Not even a little.

She hissed in pain. "Aahh..."

"Oh, it hurts?" he asked mockingly, a devilish smirk curling on his lips. "Now you'll learn what real pain feels like."

With a sudden shove, he pushed her away.

She lost her balance and fell hard onto the floor, a sob escaping her lips.

"Ahir... please," she cried, struggling to stand. "Please listen to me..."

She reached out to hold his hand, but he jerked away as if her touch burned him.

"You really think," he sneered, "that after marrying me by deception, I'd listen to a single word you say?"

His voice turned ice-cold.

"Listen carefully, Miss Zoya Singhania. I do not accept you as my wife. I loved only my Zoyi. From childhood till the wedding... she was the only one I ever loved."

Her heart clenched painfully.

"And now?" Zoya asked softly, tears shining in her eyes as she met his furious gaze.
"Now you don't love your Zoyi anymore? Where did all that love go, Ahir? Just give it one chance... one second chance."

His jaw tightened.

"She left me at the mandap," he growled. "I loved her like a madman. I waited for her for years. And what did she do? This was her answer to my love."

He laughed bitterly.

"There's no such thing as second chances in life. I didn't give her one... and I won't give you one either."

His eyes burned into her.

"And you," he continued coldly, "you were her stepsisterโ€”her sister. And yet you sat in the mandap with the man who was meant to be her husband?"

His voice cracked with fury.

"I considered you my friend, Zoya. My friend. And now... now watch how I turn your life into hell."

She flinched.

"I don't accept this marriage."

"But our marriage happened in front of everyone," she said, her voice shaking.
"You accepted it in front of the media. You said we are husband and wife. How can you do this?"

Her voice softened painfully.

"If not your wife, at least your friend... we became such close friends in such little time, didn't we?"

He laughed darkly.

"This is just a namesake marriage," he said coldly.
"You know how much I care about my reputation."

He stepped closer, his voice dripping with hatred.

"And trust me, my dear 'wifey'... just wait and watch. If I don't turn your life into hell while you're still alive, then my name isn't Ahir Shekawat."

His eyes darkened.

"You are not my friend. I hate you. Only hate."

"What about our friendship, Mr. Shekawat?" she asked quietly.

Her tears had stopped now. Her eyes were coldโ€”empty.

He stared at her with equal coldness.

"You played with fire," he said slowly.
"And the end will be disastrous. Our friendship burned in that fire long ago."

He stepped closer, his face inches from hers.

"I fucking hate you, Zoya."

He turned to leave.

Suddenlyโ€”

"I LOVE YOU, AHIR!" she whispered at a low tone.

But he heard it and didn't response.

Her voice echoed in his ears.

And for the first time...
his steps faltered.
